Shetler/Russell Return from Trip to the Dominican Republic Karen Shetler and Nancy Russell recently returned from a volunteer trip to the Dominican Republic. They went with VOSH - Volunteer Optometrists Serving Humanity - to distribute eyeglasses. The local Lions Club screened glasses throughout the past year and prepared them for distribution in the Dominican Republic. Nancy and Karen then joined 14 others to help screen people in rural areas that have limited funds and/or no access to eye care. During the four days of screening, about 1500 pairs of glasses were given out. Referrals were also made to a team of doctors for eye surgeries later. Nancy also took two suitcases of school supplies that she gave to a local teacher. They will be presenting a slide program of their trip at the Lions meeting on January 8th.
