Chuck Hinn was the lucky winner of a trip to Vegas. Chuck's winning ticket includes round trip tickets for two from Rapid City and four nights lodging in Las Vegas. Rushville City Council Votes to Put The Brakes on Truck Parking

Rushville, NE - Facing excessive and continuous damage to city streets, the Rushville City Council took action on March 31st by amending a city ordinance making it unlawful for large trucks to use and/or park on the streets within the city limits. The same ordinance also outlaws the use of "jake brakes" within the municipality.

Two people found dead inside a Phoenix home on Sunday night have been identified. Gregory Shawn Mitchell, 28 and Shawn Talafarro Naylor, 30, were found shot to death at a home near 56th Street and Paradise Lane shortly after 10 p.m.

School Board Hires Merrell Nelson as New Superintendent

The Gordon-Rushville Board of Education met on Monday night in a special meeting to approve the hiring of a new superintendent. The Board approved the hiring of Merrell Nelson. Mr. Nelson is currently the Superintendent at Crawford Public Schools.

Rushville Legion Post #161 Hosts 77th Annual District One Convention

Rushville, NE- The Rushville Legion Post #161 served as host to this year's District One Convention. Approximately 100 Legion and Auxiliary members gathered for the 77th annual assembly. The convention convened on Friday night at 5:00 and concluded Saturday night after a day of meetings, celebrations, ceremonies and fellowship.

The Gordon City Library will be reading the One Book One Nebraska 2008 book Restoring the Burnt Child by William Kloefkorn, Nebraska's own State Poet. The Nebraska Center for the Book board selected this second volume of the author's memoirs. Nebraskans are encouraged to read and join in discussion of this memoir of a small-town boy's life in the 1940's.

Arliss and I signed up to go to Deadwood with Security First and met a bus at Chadron about noon on April 1st. The bus started at Sidney. By the time the Chadron, Hay Springs, Gordon, Merriman and Martin people joined the 28 who came from Sidney the bus was full with about 50 fortune seekers. I don't think too many reached that goal.

Cole Davis led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and 4-H Pledge. Secretary Anna Scherbarth took roll call, with 13 members answering. Micah Scherbarth gave our treasurer's report. We currently have $900.

She replaces Karolyn Christopher. Adele lives in Chadron, giving us the advantage of that closeness. She has a PhD in dietary science and has implemented many innovative programs at other facilities.

100 years ago - 1908 The result of last Tuesday's election is to leave Rushville in the no saloon category. While some people express their surprise at the result, we see nothing to be surprised over. It has been a "streneous" contest and the fight put up brought out a full vote, there being 115 votes cast. The no license side won out by a majority of 17.

Brittany was chosen as the February Rotary Student of the Month. She plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then apply to medical school.

Valentine students score most points at CSC Scholastic Contest

For the second year in a row, students from Valentine scored the most points at the High School Scholastic Contest at Chadron State College on Friday. This was the 48th year the contest has taken place. Approximately 1,500 students participated. Valentine, which won Division III, barely nipped Rapid City Stevens, the Division I winner, for the most overall points.

Middle School Mustangs finally get on the track

Hawk Golfers Hit The Links

The Hawks golf team has competed in two meets so far this season, the Gering Invite and the Bayard Invite. In the Gering Invite, the Hawks finished 10th overall in Division II. Tanner Letcher finished with the best rounds of the day with a 45 and 46 for a combined score of 91. J.W. Schmid shot a 104, Tyler Scherz a 111, and Bryce Letcher a 113.

Local Youth Trapshooters Find Success Again

On Saturday April 5th the Jr. Niobrara Sportsmen's 4-H Club trapshooters had the fortune to compete in better weather this time. They traveled to Ogallala, NE to shoot against most of the teams from the panhandle including North Platte, Ogallala, Sidney, Scottsbluff, and Mitchell. There were 20 shooters from Gordon/Rushville representing the team this week.

Teachers assemble for April Fools Joke

Rushville Elementary Staff were called to a very important meeting last Tuesday morning. Teachers assembled in the library to attend a teacher's meeting, but were greeted by Student Council members. Teachers were escorted to their seats, served rolls and coffee while students read poems and told jokes.

Electric Vehicle Road Rally Scheduled in Columbus

A Power Drive road rally has been scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on April 11 at Central Community College-Columbus and end with an awards ceremony at about 3:40 p.m. The competition, which will take place in the east parking lot, will feature electric vehicles built by Nebraska high school students.

This little sleepy Eastern Colorado town rests about 15 miles southwest of Ft. Morgan and home to many who commute to Ft. Morgan for work.

Marie E. Rosseter (Nee Frederiksen) was born in Gordon, Nebraska July 8, 1911 and died March 12, 2008 in El Cajon, California. She will rest eternally beside her late husband, Morris E. Rosseter, in Gordon, Nebraska. Marie was the sixth of eight children born to Laust and Petrine Frederiksen. She was the last living member of the immediate Frederiksen family.
